I blinked and it is now the middle of August! Where did time go? We’ve been so busy getting ready for school. I seriously think I spent at least 80% of my waking day driving. Hence the reason for my absence.

The first day of school is Wednesday! I am just as sad and my kids for the start. I just love having them home. Nothing is better than being together. I’m also feeling like I need to grab every minute I can. My son is a junior this year, so he only has a couple of years before college.  Sheesh, where does time go?!

I need some feel good, cheer me up therapy.  Thankfully, I can get cheap therapy in a delicious smoothie! Talk about feel good food.  This Cherry Almond Smoothie is just delicious! It is so perfectly filling, sweet, and refreshing.

I love when cherries are in season. These guys are packed with antioxidants and phyotnutrients!  That beautiful ruby-red color of Cherries indicates they are full of anthocyanins which, help protect your heart.

High cholesterol runs in my family, so I’m always looking for foods to recommend for my Dad. Luckily, cherries have a cholesterol-lowering compound called beta-sitosterol.

Lately, it seems my vision is changing. I blame my phone and iPad, but regardless of the reason cherries have phytonutrients, lutein and zeaxanthin, which are great for protecting eyesight.

Cherry Almond Smoothie

  • 1 cup ice
  • 1 cup pitted cherries
  • 1 small banana
  • ¼ cup 0% plain greek yogurt
  • 6 whole almonds
  • 1 tbsp ground flax meal
  • 1 cup reduced sugar vanilla almond milk
  1. Add ingredients into blender and blend to desired consistency.
  2. Enjoy!

  4. I love the cherry/almond combo, I usually go for that in an ice cream duo, but this is so much healthier. My husband has high cholesterol and he’s only 34 so we’re trying so new foods/diet change because we don’t want him on any drugs! Yikes. These smoothies will be a great beginning for us! And I had no idea cherries were great for eyesight……awesome benefit.

    • Thanks Laura. I agree that using foods is so much better than taking meds. There are so many tasty foods that can really help. Cherries are so great for that, inflammation, sleep, and your eyes. So many reasons to enjoy them, right?!

Except, here in AZ we still have a few months of summer to go :( That must be a big change having your kids back in school, I bet they aren’t too excited about it either! I’ve been seeing so many beautiful cherries at the store and now I know exactly what do with them!

  10. Cindy, I seriously love reading about all of the amazing health benefits of cherries! I’ve heard so much about them lately and I’m convinced I need to eat them all day, every day now. They’re just so decadent!!! Something about them seems special.

  28. Your basically like mom when I’m months away from going to college. So I advised her to have a hobby and try something different. So she started gardening and right now she’s into juicing which is our bonding moment also:-). By the way this smoothie is her favorite to prepare for me.

    • Thanks, you are right. Quality time is a must. I am usually good at keeping busy, it’s the thought of not seeing him everyday and a quiet house that will take some major adjusting.
      This is one of my favorite smoothies. All those fresh cherries are fantastic!
