I love traditions! The sharing and passing down acts and recipes from family to family, and generation to generation…it’s what keeps our family history alive. We don’t live near our families. So for me it is important to share with my children our family traditions and to make new traditions of our own. In preparing for our Thanksgiving, I don’t want anyone to be disappointed, so I’ve been going over my menu to be certain to add our traditional favorites. As much as I do love traditions, I also like to try something new on the menu. Side dishes are an easy way to do this…
These Basil and Garlic Green Beans are one of our family favorites. This is one of the first side dishes I added to our Thanksgiving when my husband and I got married! We love them so much! I make them just about every time we have green beans. I have even found that friends that thought they didn’t like green beans, eat them all the time after having my variation. 😀
Green beans contain a variety of antioxidants, including flavonoids and carotenoids. You also get vitamins C and A. One cup of cooked green beans gives you Daily Values of 20% vitamin C, 17% vitamin A, 25% DV of vitamin K.
I steam the green beans in this recipe. Steaming is a quick way to soften the beans while still maintaining their nutrients.
- 1 lb fresh green beans, picked and rinsed
- ¼ cup water
- 1 Tbsp extra-virgin olive oil
- ½ Tbsp dried basil
- ½ tsp Lawry's garlic salt
- Add green beans and water in a large sauté pan. Cover and steam over medium high heat, just until green breaks are bright green and tender about 3-4 minutes.
- Add olive oil and seasoning, toss to coat. Sauté for 2 minutes.
- Serve warm.
These Basil and Garlic Green Beans are so delicious and I love how the seasoning “sticks” to the beans! They are so quick and easy to make you can add them to any meal. You will love that they are crisp, tender, and so flavorful! These will definitely be on our Thanksgiving table. 😀
