Chips and dip, veggies and dip, fruits and dip, wings and dip…I think you get it, I am a huge fan of dips. I think they can be a great snack food when made healthy, like my Chunky Blue Cheese Yogurt Dip…
I used Greek Yogurt (0% plain) and reduced fat blue cheese crumbles to make this dip.
Greek Yogurt
Greek yogurt is a thicker, creamier yogurt that is more nutrient dense than regular yogurt. It is made thicker by straining out the whey from the yogurt.
Greek yogurt has a higher protein content than regular yogurt. It actually has about 14 grams of protein per 6 ounces, where regular yogurt has only 5 grams. This makes Greek Yogurt a great way to add some extra protein to your diet.
Proteins are the building blocks of life. Every cell in our body contains protein. Protein is a major part of the skin, muscles, organs. They are needed to help maintain muscle, aid in growth and repair. Consuming protein also keeps you feeling full longer.
Plain Greek yogurt has the lowest amounts of sugar and calories. You have to read your labels because not all Greek yogurt is natural. Some will add fillers and thickening agents to help give it a thick consistency.
I always have some plain Greek yogurt in my refrigerator. I use it in place of sour cream and mayonnaise in my dips 😀 It is also great for baking. It gives cookies and muffins a moist texture. Greek Yogurt is also a good way to increase your calcium intake.
- 1 cup 0% fat plain greek yogurt
- ½ tsp garlic salt
- ½ tsp onion powder
- 3 oz reduced fat, blue cheese crumbles
- 1-2 Tbsp skim milk
- In a small bowl add yogurt, garlic salt and onion powder; combine. Add the blue cheese to the yogurt and stir.
- Depending on how thick you want your dip, add 1-2 tbsp of milk. (I used 1 tbsp)
I couldn’t wait to start dipping into this bowl of delicious Chunky Blue Cheese Yogurt Dip! It’s thick and creamy with delicious chunks of blue cheese. I’m not a big hamburger fan, but I put some of this on top and WOW it was amazing!
