Blueberry Pineapple Smoothie

Blueberry Pineapple Smoothie | Pick Fresh Foods

I’m finally back…congestion and fatigue had me down for several days. It was one of those things I saw coming. I’m in class and kiddos are sneezing and coughing all over the place. Used tissues are left on the desks, fallen on the floor…germies are everywhere. It hit me on Saturday. I took a super long nap and knew I must be getting sick. I really dislike being sick. Not only do I not feel well, I’m constantly thinking of all the things I should be doing rather than lying down. It just drives me crazy! The biggest bummer was what could have been an awesome long weekend, was spent inside.

On top of feeling yucky, my super awesome blender broke. I love my smoothies and a week without a blender, I felt like I was having smoothie withdrawal!

Thankfully, I’m up and running again and am celebrating with a delicious Blueberry Pineapple Smoothie!

Smoothies are great for a quick breakfast, post-workout, and for anytime you are on-the-go. Best of all the combinations are endless and you can make them super nutritious!

I’m obsessed with blueberries. I almost always have them in my refrigerator. I love to snack on them, mix them into yogurt, oatmeal, and use them in smoothies. Blueberries have amazing antioxidants that may prevent loss of memory and age-related changes to your brain function. Blueberries are a berry that contain some of the highest levels of antioxidants. This means that they are excellent for protecting cells from harmful free radicals.

I get asked quite often about free radicals. What are they?

Free radicals are a natural, inevitable part of living. They are also known to cause damage to our body’s cells.

The easiest way I can explain what they are and what they do is to compare young baby skin to an older adult. A baby has soft smooth healthy skin and as we grow older free radicals effect our cells causing signs of aging. So, in an older adult their skin may not be as smooth, and it will have wrinkles and lines. Wrinkles and lines are the effects of free radicals on our skin cells. You might also notice that smokers tend to have more lines and wrinkles, this too is due to free radicals. Those are outward signs of free radical damage and the same damage occurs inside our bodies. The damage a free radical causes inside the bodies can be more serious than a wrinkle, they can lead to cancer.

So, it is always best to reduce your exposure to free radicals and consume antioxidants to help combat their effects.

  1. honestly I’m not normally a smoothie kinda chick, but this looks SO good!

    • Thanks Christine :D I wasn’t always a smoothie lover, but once I realized how easy they are to make and nutritious they can be I was hooked!

  2. Yikes, sorry to hear you got sick but glad you are starting to feel a bit better Cindy. This smoothie sounds like a great treat to help build up those vitamins, I love the pretty color of blueberries and they sound delicious with the pineapples in this smoothie!

  3. I love a good smoothie that has tropical flavor in it. I’ve been craving pineapple in my life so I welcome this!

  4. You need to be resting … and having a smoothie! It’s tough when the mommy gets sick … I hope you are feeling better soon. Kick those germs to the curb!
This looks amazing. I love blueberries and pineapple … so why have I never put them together?? You are so smart!
I also loved your analogy for the free radicals – so very well explained!!
    Now … go nap! :)

    • Thanks, Gretchen! It sure is hard to be sick and be supermom. :D It’s strangely difficult to really relax. Thankfully, I’m on the mend and hoping to be 100% soon. More of the smoothies are sure to do the trick. Blueberries and pineapple is a really delicious combination. I don’t know what took me so long to mix this one up, but now I hooked!

  5. I hope you feel better too, Cindy! I know a cold is just a cold, but it just leaves you feeling so bleurrgh for ages.I’m trying to dodge them at work too at the moment … I’m not normally a smoothie person either but I do love blueberries, and Greek yoghurt, so maybe I should give it a go!

    • Thanks Helen :D Tis the season for colds and with our crazy unpredictable weather it seems to linger. I am pumping lots of liquids and these smoothies are a great way to get liquid and nutrients all in one.

  6. Wow, this is one gorgeous smoothie! Love the color and how thick the smoothie is. Blueberries are my favorite, in fact, I just posted a recipe for blueberry muffins!

    • I love thick smoothies. They kind of turn into a meal rather than a drink. Haha Either way I’m crazy for them and blueberries. I’ve got to check out your recipe :D

  7. Glad to hear you’re on the mend Cindy! Feeling sick is horrible – especially when you’re a person that can’t just sit and rest! I know the feeling! :-) Smoothies though are one of the best medicine. I love smoothies and would have them every day for breakfast if I could! This one looks delicious and I love blueberries! Hope you have a great weekend!

    • Thanks Kristi :D I think if I would just give in and rest I would recover so much quicker. I’ll take smoothie treatments any day, they make me feel good. Have a great weekend!

Nooo :”( I’m sorry to hear you couldn’t enjoy your long weekend. That sucks and it’s such a terrible feeling when you can see yourself getting sick ahhh. Glad to know you’re feeling better now!
This smoothie sounds so nutritious and refreshing. I love the color too!

    • Thanks Consuelo! Not being able to enjoy a long weekend is such a bummer. Especially, after a long week and the weather was finally nice enough to be outside. Oh well, there is always a next time :D

  9. I’ve been feeling like I’ve been coming down with a cold for the past like 2 weeks… not quite sick, but that constant “on the brink of being sick” feeling. It totally is those darn kids… my school becomes a huge human petri dish with all the hot air being blown around, kids sneezing and coughing on me all day, ugh!

On a more positive note, this smoothie looks freaking awesome! Such a great way to start off the day!

    • Chris, you hit the nail on the head! It is a petri dish of yucky germs. I cringe every time I have to pick up anything off the floor or clean up after the kids are gone. Worse is when multiple kids are coughing. I want a mask. lol I also want to take some lysol and disinfect everything. Do you see I have a problem with germs? Haha I hope the cold bug doesn’t get you too!

  10. Delicious recipe- I love smoothies at the moment. So refreshing!

  11. Sounds extraordinary! I’m a huge berry smoothie person – speaking of which apparently pineapples are berries, or something like that, something I read this week…anyway this sounds so good!

  12. I love smoothies for a quick breakfast! This has to be the best looking smoothie I’ve seen in a longgggg time! Seriously!

  13. This smoothie looks amazing! You are right, a delicious smooth can make someones day!

  14. Linda Tanner says:

I have never made a smoothie before but so glad I made this one it is absolutely delicious. I believe I’m hooked.

    • Awesome Linda! I’m so happy that you tried it and liked it. I’m crazy about these flavors, and believe me I know how easy it is to get hooked on smoothies. I love them!
